A Perfect Summer’s Day in Vaujany: Alpine Adventure for the Whole Family

Tucked away in the heart of the French Alps, the village of Vaujany offers more than just winter sports – it’s a summer paradise for families seeking a mix of adventure, relaxation, and connection with nature.

If you’ve ever wondered what a day in the mountains could look like, here’s a glimpse into one unforgettable day on our family summer alpine holiday.

8:00 AM – Wake Up to Yoga with a View

There’s something special about starting the day with mountain air in your lungs and the soft sounds of nature all around. Our mornings begin with a gentle family-friendly yoga session on the terrace, overlooking the rolling green slopes and glacial peaks. It’s a chance to stretch out, ground yourself, and welcome the day ahead with calm focus—kids and adults alike love the peaceful start.

9:30 AM – Mountain Lift to Adventure

Summer Lift in the Alps

After a hearty breakfast in the chalet (think fresh croissants, local cheeses, and fruit), it’s time to hop on the cable car. The lift from Vaujany whisks us up into the high alpine pastures — no effort, just panoramic views and excited chatter as we climb. It’s the perfect start to our mountain hike.

10:30 AM – Hiking to a Refuge for Lunch

Family walking in the Alps in the summer

Once at the top, we set out along a family-friendly trail that winds through alpine meadows and past glistening streams. Along the way, we might spot marmots or eagles soaring above. The destination? A charming mountain refugio tucked against the hillside, where lunch is waiting.

12:30 PM – Refuge Lunch with a View

Restaurants

There’s nothing quite like eating with a backdrop of jagged peaks and blue sky. The refugio serves up traditional alpine fare — homemade tartiflette, hearty soups, and fresh salads, with a side of spectacular scenery. Kids run free on the grassy slopes while grown-ups enjoy a well-earned glass of wine or local beer.

2:00 PM – A Gentle Descent and Chalet Afternoon Tea

After lunch, we stroll back down the trail to Vaujany. The descent is slow and steady, with lots of photo stops, stone-skipping by the river, and maybe even a few snow patches to play in. Back at the chalet, afternoon tea is served — freshly baked cake, fruit, and hot drinks or juice. It’s the perfect wind-down, with tired legs kicked up on the sun terrace.

4:00 PM – Wild Swim anyone ?

It can take quiet a bit of preparation to get in due to the chilly temperature… You do however come out feeling extremely refreshed to say the least! A great way to round off the day and share a few laughs together.

7:00 PM – Chalet Dinner and Stories Shared

Evenings are a highlight here. As the sun dips behind the peaks, families gather around the long chalet table for a delicious dinner made with local ingredients. Stories are swapped from the day, knowing more great memories will be made tomorrow.
