Hotel Le Sherpa, Val Thorens
What we say
Hotel Le Sherpa is a family-run Savoyard ski hotel in Val Thorens, part of the legendary Three Valleys ski area in the French Alps. Family-run since 1976, it sits a few metres from the slopes and five minutes from the resort's shops and bars, with a panoramic view of the Three Valleys from its terrace.
Inside, the traditional décor is proper Alpine: warm wood, sheepskin-covered chairs, a fire lit in the main lounge. Mealtimes are the highlight — the hotel's chef cooks every dish from scratch, including the inclusive 5-course evening meals, a dessert buffet four nights a week, and the weekly raclette, fondue and grill nights that feel exactly like they should feel in this part of the world.
After the slopes, recover in the outdoor hot tub or take in the mountain sunset from the terrace sauna. Val Thorens sits at 2,300m with runs up to 3,230m, so the snow is reliable from the very start of the season through to late spring. Beginners and advanced skiers are equally well served in the Three Valleys (172 green runs, 125 red, 33 black, 600km total).

Food & drink
Hotel Le Sherpa runs on half board. Breakfast buffet every morning, a 5-course chef's menu every evening. Four nights a week the chef rolls out a dessert buffet; one night is raclette, one is fondue, one is a grill evening. New Year's Eve adds a gala dinner. The cooking is proper Savoyard kitchen food, made from scratch, and the lounge keeps the fire going until everyone's ready to eat.
Half board: buffet breakfast + 5-course dinner every day. Dessert buffet 4 nights, plus weekly raclette, fondue & grill.

Raclette night
The raclette wheel is cooked in front of you, the cheese is scraped onto a pile of potatoes and cured meat, the whole room smells like someone's melted their best cheese into a holiday. One of those nights that makes the flight, the transfer and the altitude all make sense.
La Folie Douce Val Thorens

Val Thorens
Val Thorens is the highest resort in Europe — pistes open from late November and run well into May, and the whole village sits above the tree line at 2,300m. It's the end of the road, which is why the snow and the views are better than anywhere else in the Three Valleys.
Getting there
Val Thorens is reachable from three main airports: Chambery (~2 hr 15), Lyon (~3 hr) and Geneva (~3 hr 30). Flight time from the UK is 1hr 40 to 2 hours. Flights are not usually included; we can book them as part of an ATOL-protected package (ATOL 12803), plus organise transfers via our partner network.
Chambery (CMF) is the closest for Val Thorens in winter — direct UK seasonal flights. Lyon (LYS) and Geneva (GVA) both have more direct UK options year-round but slightly longer transfers. Resort tax €1.87 pp per day paid at the hotel on arrival.
Fly Chambery if you can. The transfer is about an hour shorter than from Lyon or Geneva, and the drive up into Val Thorens from the north-west is memorable. We pre-book transfers with our partner once your flights are confirmed.
