Location and Conditions
Evia is a well-kept secret, an island off the coast of mainland Greece. Well known for its mountain range, perfect temperatures and consistent thermal wind conditions. Over summer temperatures range from 20-30+ degrees, so you can say goodbye to your wetsuit and hello to boardie’s and bikinis. This allows for freedom whilst learning or improving with Kitesurfing, even though we love it here in Devon, we cant wait to see the sun..
Marmari Bay, an internationally renowned kitesurf centre is only short 30 minute drive from our beach club Stira Bay in Evia.
Marmari Surf Club & Beach Bar is one of the most guaranteed wind related destinations in Greece. The shape of the mountains surrounding the village of Marmari and the small straight in between Evia island and the Petali Islands create a Venturi effect. It mainly works with the northern Meltemi wind.
You can expect winds from 15 to 35 knots. So, 12 to 7 meter kites would be a good choice to bring with you however 9’s are the most common size used. The spot can also work with South, West and North West winds. Karistos is the biggest city in the area and is only 10 minutes drive from Marmari offers a 20km coast line with beautiful blue waters and nice waves when south wind blows.
BKSA Kitesports ORGANISATION
Their lessons are similar the internationally respected BKSA teaching scheme. This is designed to enable beginners to achieve a competent level of independence. Students will learn to fly the kite safely, launch, land, relaunch, retrieve and control the board, board start, and rescue themselves via a deep-water pack down. They will also learn to risk, and site assess the beach competently, rig and pack up, choose the correct equipment and location, avoid collision, and behave safely and responsibly as an independent kite surfer.
Lessons will include all kite and safety equipment.
