Windsurfing has a reputation for being hard to start. The trick is the right conditions, and Greece has them: flat, sheltered water in the morning, warm enough to fall in happily, and a gentle build of breeze so you progress at your own pace.
Is Greece good for learning to windsurf?
Yes, it is one of the best places to start. At Lixouri Bay in Kefalonia and Stira Bay on Evia the mornings are flat and the launch is sheltered, which is exactly when beginner sessions run. The kit is free to use and daily group coaching is included, so you are not paying by the lesson.
How long does it take to learn?
Most people are sailing across the bay and back within a few sessions. A week with daily coaching is enough to get you confidently up and riding, turning, and starting to harness the afternoon breeze as your confidence grows.
What is included?
Free use of all the windsurfing kit, daily group coaching from the beach team, and the rest of the watersports to mix in. Both clubs have kids clubs, so families can learn together or in shifts. See the wider windsurfing and watersports guide.
