Excellent value for money. Hotel was lovely and the food amazing. Really enjoyed the hikes and being able to try out paddle boarding and sea kayaking for free as part of our stay. This holiday exceeded other experiences I've had with more expensive adventure holiday companies.
Walking Holidays Kefalonia
What we say
Our guided walking holidays in Kefalonia offer some of the most dramatic scenery in the Ionian. From the National Park of Mount Ainos at 1628m (higher than Ben Nevis) to abandoned hillside villages, Venetian castles and beaches you can only reach on foot, this is Kefalonia discovered properly and slowly. A real walking holiday in Greece, not a coach tour.
Five guided walks across the week with local Greek guides George and Joanna, who've walked these trails for years and know every view, every wild flower, every taverna. Groups are deliberately small (8 to 14 walkers) so we can stay flexible on route and give you a real feel for the island. We finish most days with a well-deserved swim and a cold drink.
You're based at the Lazaratos Hotel in Lixouri, a friendly family-run spot with uninterrupted views across the Ionian and the town's tavernas a short stroll away. Breakfast every morning, packed lunches on walking days, four inclusive evening meals, and a free mid-week day to rest the legs or explore on your own.

Food & drink
Walking weeks run on Club Board with a twist: breakfast daily, packed lunches on the five walking days, and four inclusive evening meals. Greek guides George and Joanna always have a favourite taverna for each region you're walking through, so lunches and swim-stops often overlap with a proper local lunch too. Non-inclusive evenings are an easy walk into Lixouri town.
Breakfast daily + 4 inclusive dinners + packed lunches on the 5 walking days. Lunches on the free day and 3 evening meals are pay-as-you-go.

Walking food, done properly
There's an art to a walking-week food plan: enough fuel for the walks, not so much that you're falling asleep in your plate by 9pm. The Lazaratos kitchen has been refining the formula for years. Protein-rich breakfasts, varied packed lunches, big evening salads with grilled fish or slow-cooked meat, honest wine from the hillside above Lixouri.
Akrogiali Taverna
5 min walkPopular stop with the walking group. Fresh fish, generous Greek salads, views across the bay.
Maistrato
5 min walkQuieter harbourfront spot for a sunset evening on a non-inclusive night.
To Perasma
15 min taxiA taverna in the hills behind Lixouri. Wood-grilled lamb and incredible views. Worth booking a taxi for one evening.
Traditional winery visit
Free day optionGeorge can organise a visit to a local Robola winery on the free day. Worth asking about.

Location
- Walking Holidays KefaloniaYour base
Kefalonia
Kefalonia is one of a group of islands on the western side of Greece in the Ionian sea. It is the largest of the Ionian islands and parts of the island are now national parks, home to wild horses, golden eagles and other protected flora and fauna.
Getting there
The walking base is easy to reach: 3 hour flights to Kefalonia Airport (EFL) from most UK airports, then a 60 minute transfer round the bay to Lixouri. Flights are not usually included; we can book them as part of an ATOL-protected package (ATOL 12803).
Direct summer flights to Kefalonia (EFL) run from most UK airports, May to October. Pre-book a transfer with us on arrival — the airport can be hectic.
Pre-book the arrival transfer. For the return, some guests take the Lixouri-to-Argostoli ferry (20 min) and a short taxi for a gentler end to the week.
