The Ionian sailing season runs from May to October. It is a gentle area all season, but wind, heat and how busy the bays get all shift month to month.
When is the sailing season in the Ionian?
May to October. Outside these months many bases wind down and the weather is less settled. Our sailing weeks run as 7-night, Thursday-arrival holidays right across this window.
Which months are best?
- May & June: warm, green and quieter, with lighter winds. Lovely for beginners and learn-to-sail.
- July & August: hottest and busiest, with the steadiest afternoon breeze. Book early.
- September & October: warm sea, fewer crowds and reliable sailing. A favourite for many.
What is the wind like?
The Ionian summer pattern is famously friendly: calm mornings, then a sea breeze that builds through the afternoon and eases by evening. It is rarely heavy, which is part of why the area is so good for less experienced crews.
