Lixouri is Kefalonia's second town and the heart of the Paliki peninsula, on the quiet west side of the island, facing Argostoli across the bay. It is a relaxed harbour town with tavernas and cafés on the waterfront, few big hotels and some of the calmest, most swimmable beaches on the island, which is why several of our holidays are based here.
Where is Lixouri?
Lixouri sits on the Paliki peninsula in the west of Kefalonia, in the Ionian Sea off western Greece. The island capital, Argostoli, is directly across the bay, and the peninsula's coastline runs north towards the dramatic west-coast cliffs.
How do you get to Lixouri?
Fly to Kefalonia airport (EFL), about 3 hours from most UK airports. The transfer to Lixouri takes around 60 minutes by road. A car ferry also runs across the bay between Argostoli and Lixouri, which makes a day trip to the capital easy.
What is Lixouri like?
Unhurried and very Greek. The town centres on its harbour and main square, with tavernas, cafés and bakeries where locals outnumber visitors. Evenings are for eating by the water; there is no big resort strip, which is exactly the appeal.

The Paliki peninsula has sheltered beaches with distinctive red-gold sand and shallow, clear water that is ideal for families and watersports. When is the best time to visit Lixouri?
Our Kefalonia season runs from May to October. May, June and September are quieter, with warm seas and less intense heat; July and August are the hottest and busiest months, with the liveliest sailing winds.
